Earn Points from Your UK VAT Bill

This count net you an easy 10k+ points each quarter!

Welcome aboard!

EDIT: Please note that this £10k limit is now unfortunately only £3k. Anything over that £3k will incur a 2.5% Curve Fronted fee.

Did you know that you can earn valuable points from your UK VAT bill? In this post, I will discuss a clever strategy that allows you to maximize your rewards by paying your VAT bill using a specific combination of cards. This method works best for payments up to £10k to remain fee-free, with a 1.5% charge applicable on higher amounts within the same calendar month.

To implement this strategy, you'll need a Curve card and a points-earning Visa/Mastercard. The Curve card allows you to consolidate your rewards from multiple cards while only incurring a £10 fee for up to £10k in VAT payments. Among the various options available, we recommend using the Curve card in conjunction with the Capital on Tap card. When it comes to paying, simply add your Curve card - it will be charged the lowest card fee which is well worth it in my opinion.

Capital on Tap offers a good rewards program, granting you either 1% cashback, 1-2% off gift cards, or 1 Avios point for every £1 spent. These points can be used for redemptions on British Airways and Qatar Airways flights, making it an excellent choice for frequent flyers.

To make the most of this approach, you can time your VAT payments strategically. For instance, you could make a £10k payment on the 30th of one month and then another £10k payment on the 1st of the following month. This way, you can achieve £20k in spending without incurring the 1.5% fee, resulting in 20k points!

In summary, by using a Curve card along with a points-earning Visa/Mastercard like Capital on Tap, you can efficiently earn points from your UK VAT bill. Remember to time your payments carefully to maximize your rewards and avoid additional fees.

Happy point collecting!
