Fewer Points Needed on Lots of Economy Routes with Emirates

Emirates has just reduced the points needed for many Economy and Premium Economy routes from 1st June. If you're thinking of booking using Skyaward Miles, make sure you check your route!

Remember, you can start using points towards your flight cost at 5,000 miles and upgrade your seat at 7,020 miles!

You can now also choose Saver Fares for one-way rewards!

Skyaward Miles and Tier Miles will also be adjusted on Premium Economy and Economy flights with Emirates and flydubai.

Qantas and British Airways to Join the OneWorld Upgrades Program

You will soon able to use Avios and Qantas Points to upgrade to premium economy, business, and first-class seats on other OneWorld airlines. This will make Qantas Points and Avios even more valuable.

Oneworld CEO Nat Pieper announced that this expansion will allow frequent flyers to use their points for upgrades across member airlines, although a full alliance-wide upgrade system is not yet achievable.

The program will initially focus on reciprocal partnerships. Currently, American Airlines AAdvantage members can use their miles for upgrades on Qantas flights, and soon, Qantas Points will be usable for upgrades on American-operated flights.

British Airways and Iberia are also nearing a similar partnership, allowing BA Executive Club and Iberia Plus members to use Avios for upgrades on both airlines.

This initiative aims to facilitate cross-airline upgrades among other Avios-using Oneworld members like Finnair and Qatar Airways. However, each airline will determine its exchange rates and upgrade eligibility criteria.

We don't yet know when the Qantas-American or BA-Iberia upgrades will be launched or how many points will be needed, but we will keep you updated.

However, Oneworld's Customer Experience chief Gerhard Girkinger emphasised the importance of cross-airline upgrades in enhancing customer experience, although the system will start on a smaller scale and expand over time.
